American Neon Signs by Day and Night is the work of Photographer and Graphic Designer Toon Michiels. It was originally released in 1979 as an edition of 1000 in collaboration with the celebrated printing house Drukkerij Rosbeek and has since become extremely rare and hard to find.
During the late Seventies Toon traveled the length and breadth of America photographing neon signs, each sign captured during the day and again at night from an identical position. The result is a striking visual compendium that provides insight into the graphical landscape of the USA at that time.
This newly compiled digital edition of American Neon features a foreword by renowned photography collector, publisher and creative director Erik Kessels and also includes many images that were omitted from the original publication.
Toon Michiels was born in Boxtel in 1950 and studied at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in ’s-Hertogenbosch. He currently lives and works in Amsterdam with his 5 year old Jack Russell named Presley.

The Olympic City is an ongoing photography project by Jon Pack and Gary Hustwit that looks at the legacy of the Olympic Games in former host cities around the world. Hosting the Olympics has become a way for a city to show itself off on an international stage and generate tourism dollars, and cities spend millions or billions for the privilege. But after the events are over, the medals have been handed out, and the torch is extinguished, what’s next? What happens to a city after the Olympics are gone?
Originally released as an edition of 1000 printed books this digital version has been designed and enhanced specifically for mobile devices, allowing for a fully immersive and enjoyable representation of the original book. It includes the original 200 photos and a foreword by New York Times architecture critic Michael Kimmelman.
